Transfer America Reports AirTrans $60,000 Fine

AirTran has been fined $60,000 for advertising one-way airfares without providing customers information about the additional taxes and fees. The mistake that AirTrans made was in violation of the Department of Transportation's rules and regulations.

Though the airline did note that there would be additional fees and taxes added onto the sale price, the consumer would have to search for it in the fine print. To get to the fine print the consumer would have to click on the ad then scroll all the way to the bottom until they reach the prices. In addition, the DOT rules states that the "advertisements must state the full price to be paid by the customer".

DOT has a new rule that requires all airlines to include/disclose all government fees and taxes in the final price. This rule is to take effect January 26, 2012. If you are unable to fly this season because of a timeshare, contact Transfer America today and see what they can do for you.
