There will also be special events held at the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic site, the Morristown National Historical Park, the Lincoln Memorial, the Fort Donelson National Battlefield, the Fredrick Douglass National Historic site, and the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail. Also, there will be walking tours from the Lincoln Memorial to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in Washington. The walking tours will be held Sunday and Monday at 2 P.M.
Jonathan B. Jarvis, the National Park Service Director, stated, ""Dr. King's story and those of so many others whose efforts changed our country are preserved in the national parks, places where history happened. I hope every American can take advantage of the upcoming fee free weekend and visit their parks to experience their history firsthand."
If you are unable to visit the national parks during Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the parks will also be offering free admission during National Park Week, Get Outdoors Day, National Public Lands Day, and Veterans Day weekend.
