As a new year begins, Transfer America as well as other companies review previous years to see what changes could be made for a more prosperous year. Traveling has always been popular and thousands pass through airports every day. However, it seems that more and more people are starting to bring concealed weapons to airports. In 2011, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confiscated about four firearms a day at security checkpoints. In addition, most of these firearms were loaded with additional rounds in the bag. In 2010, TSA confiscated 1,238 firearms which has increased by 54% since 2007.
According to TSA many passengers claimed to have forgotten that they had a gun in their bag. Though many were charged others were released without further questioning.
One week in 2011, TSA discovered fourteen loaded guns and five unloaded handguns in passenger carry-ons. In another carry-on, TSA found "a speargun, a live teargas grenade, inert hand grenades and four knives in a single bag".
The question remains as to why TSA is discovering more and more weapons in carry-ons as each year passes. The safety of each passenger relies on TSA doing their jobs correctly and finding all weapons at the security checkpoints.
